Terms of use

Effective: 25 October 2026. These terms cover Zenith accounts, team libraries and sharing. Using Zenith with no account is covered by its open-source licence (MIT) alone.

These terms are an agreement between you and Horizon (FTC 36596), the nonprofit FTC robotics team that runs Zenith. We call it "Horizon" or "we". By making an account you agree to these terms. If you are under 18, please read them with a parent, coach or mentor.

Our privacy notice says what data we keep and why. It is part of these terms.

Who can have an account

  • You must be 13 or older, or sign in with a school account your school approved for Zenith. Zenith does not ask your age; by making an account you confirm that this is true for you. Anyone can use Zenith without an account.
  • Anyone who may have an account can make a team and own it. A team does not need an adult, but we suggest that a coach or mentor holds the admin role.
  • Give a display name your teammates will recognise. Do not use anyone else's name, and do not put personal details (an address, a phone number, a school) in a display name, team name or auto title.

Your autos belong to your team

  • Your team owns its autos and every file it publishes to its library. We claim no ownership.
  • To run Zenith, you give Horizon permission to store your team's files, copy them as needed to keep them safe and working, and show them only to the people your team chooses: your team's members, and the teams or link holders you share with. We use this permission only to run Zenith. It ends when the files are deleted (see the retention policy).
  • When you share outside your team, the other team gets a summary of your auto, not the file itself: where your robot goes and when, its outer size, and the field elements it takes. Anyone who watches your robot in a match can see much the same.
  • Only publish autos you have the right to publish. If another team shared a path with you, do not republish it as your own without asking them.

Acceptable use

Be the kind of teammate FIRST's Gracious Professionalism asks for. Do not use Zenith to:

  • harass, bully or threaten anyone, or post anything hateful, sexual or violent in a name, a title, a comment or a proposal;
  • collect other people's personal information;
  • pretend to be another person or another team, or claim a team number that is not yours;
  • try to read what you were not given, get around the database's access rules, or break or overload the service (for example, opening a link over and over to use up its free allowance);
  • upload anything harmful, such as malware, or anything that is not yours to share;
  • break the law or FIRST's rules.

If you find a way into something you should not see, stop and tell us privately (see Contact). Please do not test it on other teams' data.

Team numbers

  • One team in Zenith holds each FTC team number. A number is marked unverified until a Horizon admin checks it. Unverified teams can use every feature.
  • To be verified, a team asks for a review and gives evidence, such as a photo of the robot or banner with a code, or an event result that lists the team. A Horizon admin reviews it and records a one-sentence reason your team can read.
  • If a team claims a number another team already holds and has not been verified, both are marked contested and a Horizon admin reviews the claims. Both teams keep working meanwhile. A claim on a verified number is refused; ask us for a review if the holder is wrong.
  • The team that does not get the number keeps its library and members, under its name without a number. It can claim another number.
  • The team that does not get the number may appeal once, within 14 days of the decision. A Horizon admin decides the appeal, possibly the same one who made the first decision, and that decision is final.
  • Every decision records which Horizon admin made it, and both teams can read that in the number's history. A Horizon admin may decide about a team they are a member of, Horizon's own included; the record shows it.

A team's owner or admin requests verification in the app, with Request verification on the team's page, and the request waits in a review queue that only Horizon admins can see.

Our part

  • We run Zenith for free, for the FTC community. We try to keep it working and your data safe.
  • No warranty. Zenith is provided "as is". We do not promise it will always be available, free of mistakes, or right about whether a path will work. Check every auto on your robot before a match. Robots can hurt people and break things; drive safely.
  • Limit of responsibility. As far as the law allows, Horizon is not responsible for losses that come from using Zenith, such as a lost match, a damaged robot, or a lost file. Keep your own copy of anything important: your robot repository stays the source of truth for your robot.
  • The cloud features run on a free plan with daily limits. On a very busy day they may stop until the limit resets. The app and your local files keep working.

Ending your account

  • You can stop at any time. Delete your account in the app's settings, or leave a team, or delete a team you own. Deleting a team deletes its members, invites, settings, activity and library for everyone in it, so download anything you want to keep first; the retention policy says what is kept.
  • We may remove content or suspend an account or team that breaks these terms, or when the law requires it. Where we can, we will tell the team why.
  • If we ever shut down the cloud features, we will say so in the app and on this site well in advance, so that teams can download their autos first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change matters to how you use Zenith, we will say so in the app and in the changelog before it takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account.
